Canary endemic
Northwest of Tenerife, practically the whole island of Fuerteventura (except the Central West zone), the whole island of Lanzarote, and the Chinijo archipelago (Graciosa, Alegranza, Montaña Clara and Roque del Este). Doubtful presence in Gran Canaria.
It is a characteristic species of the steppe communities of the eastern islands. It lives not only in sandy areas but in more or less stony plains. In general they require a certain development of the vegetation. In addition, they frequent areas of crops, and exceptionally can be observed in unsuitable places such as the edges of the badlands. The nest is a simple depression in the ground, usually in the shelter of a plant, and usually on a slope or small hill with good visibility. Make extensive movements to feeding areas.
