Katy Perry‘s “Teenage Dream” loveliness was turned into a nightmare during her guest appearance on Fox sitcom “Raising Hope” on Tuesday night (Mar. 6). The pop superstar played Rikki, a frizzy-haired, slightly-mustachioed prison guard who humiliates Sabrina (Shannon Woodward) in jail.
The episode focused on Sabrina’s stint in jail after her participation in a protest goes awry. In jail, she meets Rikki, who used to be in the Little Beavers club with Sabrina before she got too popular and ditched Rikki as a friend. The guard tries to shame her old friend as much as possible before everything works out neatly by the end of the episode.

The nifty bit of stunt casting apparently came about due to the friendship between the pop star and the “Raising Hope’ actress. “Shannon Woodward told me that her friend Katy was interested in doing an episode and I thought, ‘Why not? Let’s do your friend Katy a favor,’ ” executive producer Greg Garcia said in a statement announcing the casting last month. “Then she came in and did a terrific job. She was hilarious. And now people are telling me that Katy is also a singer. I sincerely hope that her appearance on the show helps her get her singing career off the ground. It’s a tough business.”
Perry previously appeared as a guest star on CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother,” and lent her voice to “The Smurfs” feature film. Is movie stardom next for California gurl? If it is, can she at least promise never to wear the Rikki wig again?
