Sharleen Spiteri to star in movie

Sharleen Spiteri is to move into films

Sharleen Spiteri is to move into the movie world after landing her first lead role.

The former Texas singer will star in Between Weathers, which is to be shot in the Shetland Islands.

The film shows a remote community battling to protect its island from a corporate giant which wants to exploit the area.

Hit film Local Hero, Bill Forsyth's 1983 movie, had a similar theme as a US oil firm tries to buy up a Scottish village.

Also starring in the new film will be Dawn Steele, known to TV viewers for her role in hit BBC drama Monarch Of The Glen.

Film-makers have yet to cast the lead male roles for the movie, which will be made next summer.

Producer Jim Brown said: "We are delighted to have Sharleen and Dawn on board as the first raft of leading talent signed up."
