 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Needles short (0.5-1" long) and flat (most spruce needles are 4-sided), keeled on both sides, dark green above and glaucous white with 4-6 distinct, waxy bands on either side of the midrib below. Bark coffee color, with thin scales. Cones are 2", purplish colored when young to cinnamon-brown when mature, and usually not abundant.
 Special Characteristics:

Additional Information

One of the most beautiful and valued spruces for landscape planting. More useful than most as a screen where space is limited because of narrow form. Needles can brown in windy exposed sites in winter. Can get aphids, budworms, and borers, though these are not usually serious problems.
