This time, when you buy Ranma, you won’t be getting two TV episodes for just $29.95!
Earlier today, Viz Media announced that they will release the Ranma ½ OVA series and both Ranma ½ films on Blu-Ray. The OVA series, as well as films Ranma ½: Big Trouble in Nekonron, China (Ranma ½: Chuugoku Nekonron Daikessen! Okite Yaburi no Gekitou Hen!!) and Ranma ½: Nihao My Concubine (Ranma ½: Kessen Tougenkyou! Hanayomewo Torimodose!) will be released in a single set which is slated for a 2017 release.
Both of the Ranma ½ films serve as sequels to the original TV series. Big Trouble in Nekonron, China hit theaters in 1991, as part of a double-feature with Urusei Yatsura: Always My Darling. The film was helmed by Shuji Inai and Shuji Iuchi (Galaxy Express 999: Can You Live Like a Warrior!!) at Studio DEEN, with Atsuko Nakajima (Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto, You’re Under Arrest!) providing character designs. The team of Ryota Yamaguchi (Cutey Honey Flash, One Piece) and Shuji Iuchi wrote the feature’s screenplay.
Nihao My Concubine originally debuted in Japanese theaters in 1992. Iku Suzuki (Kodocha, Maze: The Mega-Burst Space) directed the project at Studio DEEN, with Atsuko Nakajima providing character designs. Ryota Yamaguchi returned to write the screenplay.
Viz Media released Ranma ½ on Limited Edition Blu-Ray from March 2014, through mid-2015. The company recently rolled out Standard Editions, which are currently available at retailers.
