Discussing the cover of the magazine in the latest episode of the TikTok series 'Used To Be Young', where he recalls important moments throughout his career, Cyrus reflected on how much he enjoyed doing the photo shoot.
"Everyone knows the controversy from the photo, but they don't really know behind the scenes, which is always much more meaningful," said the singer of the cover photo featuring the 15-year-old Cyrus who was wearing a white shirt with red lipstick taken by famous photographer Annie Leibovitz.
He continued: 'My sister Noah [Cyrus] is sitting on Annie's lap and pressing the camera button to take pictures,' he said. My family is on set and this is the first time I'm wearing red lipstick. Pati Dubroff, who makeupted my face, thought it would be another element that would distinguish me from Hannah Montana.
Cyrus then explained that the controversy behind the photo was her cover showing her as the opposite of the child-friendly Disney character, Hannah Montana, which she described at the time.
