The glossy ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) is a heron-like wading bird with chestnut, green and purple plumage and long, grayish-green legs. The most widespread ibis species in the world, it visits Chesapeake Bay marshes and wetlands from spring through autumn. It uses its long, curved bill to probe through mud and shallow water for insects, small fish and aquatic invertebrates.
