Stewie Griffin is finally sitting down for a long-overdue therapy session.
As previously reported, Sir Ian McKellen will guest-star in an upcoming episode of Family Guy as the voice of Stewie’s therapist. And in a recent interview with TVLine, executive producer Rich Appel revealed that Stewie’s sexuality is among the topics they’ll be addressing — though he adds that it’s merely “the tip of the iceberg.”
“It’s just a two-character episode with Stewie in his therapist’s office for the first time,” Appel says. “It’s a wonderful episode, and Seth’s performance is spectacular. They delve into all sorts of things you would think would come up in a therapy session with a boy like Stewie. When Stewie’s with his therapist, they pretty immediately address questions of sexuality. The episode covers that, and then goes to deeper issues for Stewie.”
The topic of Stewie’s sexuality has come up pretty consistently over the course of Family Guy‘s 300 episodes — look no further than the compilation video embedded below — but it’s never been discussed in this sort of environment before.
The episode, which Appel says will be presented with limited commercial interruptions, airs next month. New episodes return Sunday, March 11 (Fox, 9/8c).

Kinda silly to talk about sexuality of a baby. Can’t we see his obsession with his teddy bear as a more metaphoric relationship.
Omg really? He’s a baby who goes to gay club and murders people on a regular basis. The people on family guy wrote this character this way to stir up controversy. Get over yourself.
Yup. They will “discuss” his sexuality , not settle it. Just another fake out from a show that never really answers questions or settles anything. So long as the trip is fun, I don’t really care about the destination.
You’re approaching Family Guy like it has the complexities and mysteries of Lost……..
FG has some idea of what it is doing. Lost was obviously making it up, the day of shooting, by the middle of S2.
You have a point Mark. An idiotic one, but a point nonetheless.
Not a regular cartoon baby, though, anymore than Brian isn’t a regular cartoon dog. Even Pebbles and Bam-Bam demonstrated they were attracted to each other from the cradled, so, overall, this isn’t that much of a big deal — in cartoon terms, of course.
I remember Brian asking Stewie if he is gay a couple of years ago. Stewie replied, “probably”.
I think stewie is bi
Eventually Family Guy gives me a gut laugh. Usually over something silly and gross that I didn’t think I would laugh about. And Stewie is obviously Bi. He’s chased girl friends on the playground and in school and also danced shirtless at a Gay nightclub.
I would say another examples of him perhaps be bi or leaning toward gay is the time where Stewie had just returned from the future to stop himself from blowing up the lifeguard stand, he stops and talks to these girls getting a suntan.
Yet in a later episode where he and Brian are jumping from multi-universes, Stewie stated that he loved the universe where there was only men in thongs.
Didn’t Seth already confirm that Stewie was gay a couple of years ago?
That’s like asking if Roger is gay
I didn’t know family guy hadn’t been canceled again!
Hes been a Bi charater since episode one, how is this news?
Stewie’s mind is a dark and dangerous place. But he can do a great can-do with all he ruffles.Ok,so he’s bi. Duh didn’t we know that already. Excellent show.
It’s about time LOL
I ran into stewie one day eating lunch at a small Mexican restaurant in San Diego , he really is nothing like the character he portrays on tv. He was with a very pretty woman. He signed an autograph for me and said “don’t believe anything you read in the ny times, Washington post, or anything cnn says. I thought that was nice.
What time will this be on fox and will it appear on itv2
