Redo of Healer is a Dark Fantasy anime that recently came to light and caused many controversies as soon as it came out. Basically, it features dark fantasy revenge with a bunch of disturbing scenes which might be too gruesome for some viewers.

This anime deals with the dark themes of battles and realistically portrays them. Other than the darker elements, it sure will make you laugh because some of the characters are just too adorable!
The world they portray is definitely not a normal one. You will find mages, elves, Inu-people, Usagi-people, Neko-people (sounds cute), and much more!
The story starts with a gate opening in Tokyo that let troops of orcs, dragons, and knights into Japan that created chaos everywhere. The protagonist, Itami, managed to send the creatures back to their World and was appointed to go to their world and investigate what’s going on there.
Itami along with a bunch of other people goes into the fantasy world and makes a lot of new friends that are not human. Itami has no time to waste since he caught up between the two worlds and is dying from the pressure from both sides!
21. Sky of Connection / Yosuga no Sora
Just like Redo of Healer, Yosuga no Sora portrays some controversial themes, one of them being forbidden love (It might turn some people off). Other than that, this anime is a great romance drama and also deals with other themes related to it.
The story revolves around two siblings, Haruka and Sora, who after getting orphaned by a car accident, move to their grandparents’ house. Haruka is able to start a romance with a bunch of girls from his school. However, Sora finds it difficult to open up to anyone.
We also see Haruka seeing Sora as more than his sister. He actually starts developing feelings for her and here begins the forbidden love (might be disturbing for some viewers!).
20. Magical Girl Madoka Magica
This anime might catch you off guard and make you think it’s about a bunch of high school girls and is all adorable and wholesome. That’s where you’re wrong my friend! It deals with a dark fantasy story that’ll probably scar you for life.
Truly made for cynics and not innocent little girls, this anime gives a dark twist to the story and leaves you in awe. Sure it uses cute-looking magical girls but has some really disturbing and absurd scenes!
The story is about 4 little girls who sign a contract with a bunny-like creature to fight against the witches that have spread despair everywhere. In turn, the girls will be able to have their one wish granted.
Sounds simple, right? But that’s not the case. There’s more to just fighting witches and getting their wishes granted and it’s not that simple!
19. Made in Abyss
Another misleading anime, Made in Abyss will make you feel like you’re about to get into a cutesy world of fantasy with adorable little girls. It’s not the case with anime. It’s the exact opposite to it! Though, it will be impossible for you to guess what you’re getting into.
It serves the themes of fights, villains, and much more. It’s definitely not your average cute chibi anime!
The story revolves around an orphan girl named Riko who is determined to find her mother in a giant hole called “The Abyss” near her orphanage. The Abyss is filled with mysterious creatures that are so disturbing that you might not forget about them for a while!
18. Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time
An anime that includes a lot of comedy, Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time resembles Redo of Healer in many ways. Though, it’s more towards lighthearted comedy.
It is the true definition of the H-genre as the main character is surrounded by so many girls and all of them want a piece of him. He’s apparently the strongest man in the World and many women, being aware of that fact, wants to marry him.
Now, Peter is engaged to a gorgeous knight, Luvelia, and has no intentions of cheating on her. However, the tempting girls around him show no mercy on him and try to convince him using their “assets”. It’s a true test for Peter and his loyalty!
17. Erased
Erased is similar to Redo of Healer because it deals with the same time travel incident. You’ll find yourself with a major cliff-hanger after every single episode of Erased. It’s not your average time-travel story, it has its own twist to it!
The story is quite heartbreaking and revolves around a boy named Satoru Fujinuma who’s a part-timer. He’s got the ability to turn back time to avoid deaths or accidents. The incidents happening around in the city triggered his past traumas and he begins to question his ability, wondering if it’ll let him change the past (Sounds interesting!)
16. High School DxD
High School DxD is an anime with A LOT of comedy. Just like Redo of Healer, it contains a lot of unnatural comedy that might not be the cup of tea for everyone, However, if you’re into that thing then you should definitely check it out! (We’re not judging anyone here).
The story revolves around the no.1 idiot, Issei, who wants nothing but to be surrounded by girls all the time. After joining Kuou academy, he’s able to score big and get a gorgeous girlfriend but little did he know that he’d fallen for a devil in an angel’s disguise.
The gorgeous fallen angel kills him but luckily, he gets revived by his classmate and a beautiful demon, Rias. She puts forward a condition that Issei becomes her slave if he wants to live again and obviously, he’s up for that. After getting resurrected, Issei finds himself torn between demons, fallen angels, exorcists, and so many other creatures and there’s no escape for him!
15. Claymore
Claymore is similar to Redo of Healer in a few ways. It depicts the controversial themes just like Redo of Healer. It also leans more towards animation than actual fight scenes that include some hardcore action. The dark fantasy elements are really impressive in this one so if you liked Redo of Healer, you’re definitely going to love it!
The story takes place in older times when Yoma (Demons) spread chaos everywhere. Those demons can easily blend in with other humans by taking the shape of those whose memories they’ve eaten.
The only creatures Yomas are truly scared of are Claymores who are half-human and half-demon women. The Claymores are fully fated to become Yomas eventually. Our main character Clare shows a bit of humanity and saves an orphan Raki who swears to help her retain her humanity till the end.
14. Lord Marksman and Vanadis
Providing you with excellent comedy just like Redo of Healer, this anime focuses mainly on war and a lot of beautiful girls as well. It has a medieval setting and also includes a hint of magic. The first episode will reel you in right away because of how badass it is!
This anime tells us the story of Tigrevurmud Vorn who is a young Lord of some country. He’s ordered by the King to go to the neighboring country and break a war with them. Eleonora Viltaria is one of the Seven Vanadis and a beautiful war maiden of the enemy that Tigrevurmud is going to fight. Both of them come across each other and their legendary fight begins!
13. Blue Exorcist
Blue Exorcist was a very hyped anime at first when it came out and contains some pretty decent elements of dark fantasy. The action scenes are very intense that makes it similar to Redo of Healer.
Blue Exorcist revolves around a boy named Rin Okumura, an ordinary boy. One day, he encounters a boy possessed by some demon. His unfortunate encounter with him awakens his power and reveals to him that he’s the son of Satan. He joins the True cross order and works as an exorcist while hiding his true identity. Though, his journey is definitely not an easy one!
12. God Eater
Another amazing dark fantasy anime, God Eater reminds us of true darkness because of its apocalyptic settings. It is similar to Redo of Healer as the fighting scenes are pretty intense and are gloomy overall. The conversations between the characters are very interesting and might be hard to understand sometimes!
The story is set in the early 2050s when weird creatures named “Oracle Cells” originate from nowhere and start consuming all the life force there is on planet Earth.
The humans are on the verge of extinction as there’s no way they can fight those monsters. However, their only hope lies within the members of the elite force who can wield “God Arcs” that are living weapons that work against Oracle cells.
11. Arifureta
Arifureta is the kind of anime that slightly diverges from an average isekai anime. Many people are not happy with its animation and personally, I’m one of those people. Other than that, the story includes a decent amount of dark fantasy elements that are similar to Redo of Healer.
Its story revolves around Hajime Nagumo and his friends who are summoned to fantasy land as heroes. Everyone except Hajime are given exceptional powers and abilities. Hajime gets depressed because of his lack of power. He soon finds himself surrounded by lethal monsters in a dungeon where sacrifice is his only option!
10. Land of the Lustrous
Land of Lustrous is probably the only 3D anime that doesn’t give you eye cancer. It’s true that 3D anime are often lackluster but so is not the case with this anime. It’s very eye-catching and the visuals are very colorful and attractive.
Each episode ends with a cliffhanger that will make you come back for more. The setting of this anime is in the distant future where microscopic organisms have created a new life form by the name of Houseki. The 28 Gems have to fight against the Lunarians who wish to turn them into decorations. Things change when Kongou, the master of Gems, assigns them to create a natural history encyclopedia.
9. Overlord
With similar settings, Overlord and Redo of Healer share some common things. It has a bit of realistic aspects as well, of course. This anime sure can make you jump off of your seat with excitement. The animation, characters, sound effects everything is amazing! It also includes some dark fantasy elements in it.
The story revolves around a gamer boy named Momonga who gets trapped inside his favorite MMORPG the night it was scheduled to completely shut down.
He tests his strength and all the practice he’s done against local rogues and beasts. He realizes no one can stand a chance against him. He lives as a fearsome mage named Ainz Ooal Gown and keeps searching for stronger opponents! This anime is a perfect balance between comedy and darkness.
8. The Legend of the Legendary heroes
The similarity between this anime and Redo of Healer is the timeline and setting. It also has its fingers in multitudes of genre jars like fantasy, comedy, action, and semi-political. All of that makes it a very unique and refreshing anime.
The Legend of the Legendary Heroes is about a lethal soldier named Ryner who is cursed by some mysterious power and was bullied his entire life because of it.
His partner, Ferris, is a beautiful woman with sharp wits. Both of them wish to end the political corruption and set out on a journey to find mystical artifacts and come across a lot of blood-thirsty enemies.
7. Ajin
Ajin may be considered as the darkest of the darkest anime that even start off dark. It resembles Redo of Healer because of its dark theme and setting. Though, a lot of people are not happy with the mix of 3D and 2D animation. Overall, it’s a pretty good anime and is pretty close to Redo of Healer.
This anime is about creatures named “Ajin” who are Demi-Humans and are very fearsome amongst the masses. They hide from the humans because if captured, they’d be tortured and experimented on endlessly.
Our protagonist boy, Kei, aspires to be a doctor but dies in a car accident. Soon he’s revived and realizes he too is an Ajin. He’s torn between humans and Ajin who wish to harm him in many ways!
6. Akame ga Kill
This anime is very similar to Redo of Healer because it takes the theme of darkness to another level just like Redo of Healer. The setting is pretty similar and the characters are too. With a bittersweet theme, Akame ga Kill will make you laugh and cry at the same time!
Akame ga Kill is about a boy named Tatsumi who travels to the Imperial Capital to earn some money with his friends. His life soon changes when he comes across a group of assassins named Night Raid and ultimately joins it to fight the corruption in the Capital and make it pure again!
5. Mushoku Tensei
This anime is pretty new and is an excellent Isekai resembling a lot with Redo of Healer. It provides a lot of realism in a fantasy world and we can tell right away that it’s going to be a part of the H-genre. Though it has a lot of comedic elements, we really can’t ignore the dark underlying theme that makes it a whole lot attractive for dark fantasy fans.
The plot revolves around a middle-aged man who got isekai-ed to another world after getting hit by our favorite “Truck-kun”. He is born as Rudeus in the other World and lives his life as a magic-user along with a lot of pretty girls around him. If you loved Redo of Healer, Mushoku Tensei is going to reel right in!
4. Elfen Lied
With realistic aspects, Elfen Lied seems similar to Redo of Healer. It also includes a lot of strong themes that are controversial. If you’re the kind of person who does not get bothered by realistic fights, then you should definitely check this one out!
The story of Elfen Lied is about Kouta and Yuka who find a girl covered in blood on the beach. They decide to save her and to take her to their home. Little did they know they were in for some massive trouble when they saved that girl. Named Nyu by both of them, the girl was not a normal girl but an awful killing machine!
3. Rising of the Shield Hero
One thing that strongly connects this anime with Redo of Healer is the theme of “Revenge”. Both the protagonists had been betrayed and left alone just to be a laughing stock for everyone. The one thing that sets apart both the protagonist is that one of them (Naofumi) retains some of his humanity while the other one (Keyaru) throws it all away and is blinded by revenge!
This anime is about a boy named Naofumi who’s a shield hero (the weakest in their world). He soon changes from a kind person to a cold one when he is falsely accused of assault. The whole kingdom turns against him and bullies him in the worst ways. Naofumi sets on a journey to prove himself innocent despite all the claims and clear his name.
2. Berserk
Berserk is said to be one of the darkest fantasy anime ever made. It includes a lot of action so if you’re into that kind of thing, you definitely need to watch it ASAP. Our protagonist is psychologically very realistic and an amazing swordsman. The fights in this one are pretty dark and epic!
This anime is set in Medieval Europe and tells the story of a young Mercenary named Guts who becomes the “Black Swordsman” who brutally executes demons. He joins a gang named “Band of the Hawk” and proves to be a great help to them. The brutal fights and realistic scenes in this anime are on another level!
1. Goblin Slayer
Just like Redo of Healer, Goblin Slayer shows a lot of realistic aspects in a fantasy world, making it one of the best dark fantasy anime. This anime also deals with the theme of “Revenge” just like Redo of Healer. It also features a controversial theme of assault that is not done by humans but by Goblins!
Goblin Slayer is about a Goblin Slayer that loves Slaying Goblins (Literally!). After his family is killed by some goblins, he swears to kill every goblin from the face of Earth. He joins an adventure guild party and completes missions, preferably those that involve a lot of goblins!

He finally succeeds in helping her and out of gratitude, Emilia takes him to her palace and lets him stay there as a butler. Subaru slowly develops feelings for Emilia and decides that he’d help her become the next Queen no matter what. However, his journey is full of pain and suffering as he comes across a lot of deadly villains that are after Emilia. Now, will Subaru overcome all the suffering while having a bunch of good companions by his side and be able to make Emilia’s wish come true? 11. Charlotte Just like Tokyo Revengers, Charlotte also involves the theme of time traveling. It also involves some High School stuff going on just like Tokyo Revengers. So, if you liked Tokyo Revengers, you’re definitely going to love watching Charlotte, too! Charlotte follows the story of some pre adolescent kids who start developing superhuman powers when a mysterious comet named Charlotte passes by Earth. Yuu Otosaka is our MC who develops the power of possessing anyone’s body for five seconds and wants to use it to live his school life as carefree as he can. However, he’s exposed by a girl named Nao Tomori. She forces him to transfer to the Houshinoumi Academy where the rest of the kids with superhuman powers are. Together, they search for their destiny as power wielders. 10. Black Lagoon Black Lagoon is an action-oriented anime with a bunch of delinquents/yakuza just like Tokyo Revengers. However, the yakuza in Black Lagoon are definitely on a whole other level of badass. So, if you’re into some action-filled anime, we definitely recommend you to watch this one! Black Lagoon tells us the story of Rokuro Okajima who’s an ordinary salaryman, carrying some important documents for the company. The ship he’s traveling in gets attacked by the pirates. He’s kidnapped by the mercenaries but his top priority is to keep the documents safe. He soon notices that the pirates are quite friendly and mean no harm to him. Now, with his life as a corporate slave ruined, he wishes to join the group of pirates and travel with them throughout the South China Sea. 9. ReLife ReLife features the concept of time traveling along with some lovey-dovey concept that is quite similar to Tokyo Revengers. You’d also notice the characters of both the anime giving the same vibes despite having different dynamics. Traveling back in time to fix one’s life by not repeating the same mistake is what’s similar in both ReLife and Tokyo Revengers. The story revolves around a 27-year-old guy named Kaizaki Arata, who’s hopeless in finding a job after quitting his former one. One day he meets Ryo Yoake who works at the ReLife Research Institute. Ryo possesses a drug that could transform Kaizaki into his 17-year-old self again to fix his past mistakes. Kaizaki agrees to use it and starts his life again as a high-schooler. 8. Great Teacher Onizuka Both Great Teacher Onizuka and Tokyo Revengers share the theme of High School Drama and involve some really nice yakuza action. However, Great Teacher Onizuka is definitely way more comedic than Tokyo Revengers. Our MC in Great Teacher Onizuka is a badass ex-biker gang leader who aspires to be a great high school teacher (How ironic!). However, he’s up to no good as his sole motive of getting into a high school as a teacher is just to find a pretty little teenage wife for him. He manages to get into the prestigious Holy Forest Academy but finds himself in a bit of a mess as his class is notorious for being rotten to the core. The students face issues every day and he is the one who solves them by using his life lessons. 7. Orange Orange is just another anime with time-traveling as its main theme. Although it does not involve any delinquents or yakuza, it is quite similar to Tokyo Revengers. Both involve some high school romance and the MCs wishing to fix their past mistakes to save their loved ones. We definitely recommend you to check it out if you loved watching Tokyo Revengers. Orange follows the story of Takamiya Naho who receives a detailed letter from herself 10 years in the future one day. Ikebukuro West Gate Park Both Ikebukuro West Gate Park and Tokyo Revengers revolve around the gang culture in Japan and its power dynamics. They show the struggles of different yakuza gangs possessing different power structures. They both share the same concept of protecting someone other than themselves! The story is about Makoto Majima who is a troubleshooter and often fixes disputes amongst the deadly yakuza that live in Ikebukuro. He’s Extremely capable and is able to do things that even the police can’t. Makoto ends up losing his loved one when things get out of hand. Will he keep his cool and deal with everything logically or go haywire? The answer lies in the anime! 5. Rainbow Another anime about delinquents and gangs, Rainbow tells us the story of some bad boys that are also sad boys! Rainbow and Tokyo revengers are quite similar because of the concept of yakuza bonding and deeply analyzing why they turn out to be like that. Rainbow tells us the story of a bunch of teenagers who have been shifted to Shounan Special Reform School because of some crimes they committed. They meet an older inmate, Rokurouta Sakuragi, who was a former boxer in their cell and all of them become close to him. The boys saw a light of hope and promised each other that they’ll meet again outside after serving their sentences. 4. Shounan Bakusozouku This anime features a theme of gang culture and mixes it up with the high school drama which gives it an interesting edge! We see the concept of gang culture portrayed beautifully in this anime just like Tokyo Revengers. Shounan Bakusozouku is about a high school gang leader who’s a biker as well as a member of his school’s handicrafts club (How ironic!). We find our MC very weird because he constantly juggles between being a badass biker and a total cutie with his handicrafts. The rest of his gang is equally weird! 3. Steins; Gate Steins; Gate incorporates the theme of time travel and is very similar to Tokyo Revengers. However, we don’t see any gangs or yakuza in Steins; Gate. Our MC, unlike the MC of Tokyo Revengers, is a weird scientist. Both the anime involve going back in time to save their loved ones. This anime revolves around a mad scientist named Rintarou Okabe along with his team members, Mayuri Shiina and Hashida Itaru who are constantly working on some “Future Gadgets”. They manage to create a bizarre “Phone Microwave” that can send Emails to the past, changing the past completely. 2. Kokou Botuden Crows Kokou Botuden Crows revolve around high school gangs and delinquents and their strong bonds with each other. If you liked Tokyo Revengers, you’re definitely going to love this one! The story is about Bouya Harumichi who got transferred to an all-boys high school. That high school is a haven for some of the most dangerous delinquents. The high school is named “Crows High School” because the students get a lot of hate from normal people because of their inauspiciousness. Hamachi has the potential of becoming a badass delinquent. But will he really join hands with the delinquents and get all the hate from the people around him? 1. Erased Just like the MC of Tokyo Revengers, our MC from Erased becomes his younger self to save his loved one. Both anime share the concept of time traveling as well as changing the course of things so that they could fix what they’ve ruined. Erased follows the story of Satoru Fujinuma who’s a reclusive part-timer with no ambitions. However, he has the power of going back in time and avoiding accidents or deaths (Such a convenient power!). Satoru lives with a constant childhood trauma that he would like to forget. The only way is to go back in the past and fix things so that he could live his life without any guilt. Will he trust his ability and go back in time to fix things? Conclusion Tokyo Revengers is definitely worth all the grace it’s getting. It has a beautiful story that gives us a lesson that we should not trust what we see on the surface but also try to understand something on a deeper, less superficial level. If you’re into anime that’s full of cuteness, wholesomeness, and a few emotional moments from time to time, then for sure you’ve heard of Gakuen Babysitters. Gakuen Babysitters has a hint of the sweet high school romance! It has a tsundere! It has great main characters! But most of all, the babies look adorable! Gakuen Babysitters is a Comedy Slice of Life anime that was handled by Brain’s Base studio. It has a total of 12 episodes and premiered last Winter 2018. The plot follows Ryuuichi Kashima and his little brother Kotarou. After losing both their parents in a plane crash, Ryuuichi now joins the babysitter club in exchange for the chairwoman of Morinomiya Academy to let them live with her for free and enroll Ryuuichi in the school without pay. This series just doesn’t involve babies, but it features a story of two brothers slowly adapting to a new environment without a family, but slowly they start to realize that they will never be alone. This kind of situation was rather a staple piece especially at the start of Gakuen Babysitters. Think of this series as Hayato getting into a relationship and Yagi not losing his unusual addiction for kids and becoming his best friend. Ore Monogatari is about Takeo Gouda, definitely not your everyday high schooler. His conquest for love began when he saved the cute and adorable Rinko Yamato from being molested. After he thinks that Rinko is interested in his best friend, Makoto Sunukawa, he acts as her helper even though he was also in love with her. Takeo has a lot of similarities with Ryuuichi especially in how they are both selfless and are willing to put others first. 15. Horimiya You might be wondering why Horimiya is on the list, but hold your horses and hear me out. Horimiya has some similarities to Gakuen Babysitters especially in how episodes progress. The story progresses in a manner that cannot be easily realized by the viewer. Another thing that Horimiya has that is the same with Gakuen Babysitters is how they portray the Slice of Life and Comedy genre realistically. It has characters that have similar characteristics to Gakuen Babysitters as well. Similar to Ryuuichi, Miyamura (the male main character) started to understand that no one can be alone, as he meets friends and eventually finds the love of his life. Horimiya is a Slice of Life, RomCom anime that features Izumi Miyamura, a timid and shy student who was alone for most of his life and was constantly bullied, and Kyouko Hori who is an independent and determined high school girl. As the days go by and they start to know each other, love eventually blossoms between the two, and a new world is opened up for Miyamura Izumi. It may not have babies, but that does not mean it doesn’t have characters who are as dumb as one. 14. Himouto! Umaru-chan She is not a baby! She just looks like one! Himouto! Umaru-chan is a slice-of-life anime just like Gakuen Babysitters. It features characters with the same tropes that are found in Gakuen Babysitters as well. Not only that, their comedic antics are closely similar to the series as well but it lacks the wholesomeness that encapsulates Gakuen Babysitters. Himouto! Umaru-chan is a pure comedic slice of life anime that offers little drama but packs a punch with its jokes and hilarious scenes. The series revolves around Umaru Doma who is a perfect high school student but once she gets home and wears her hamster hoodie, she becomes this lazy otaku that just does whatever she likes, leaving her brother, Taihei all the household chores. The series also has a set of characters that give more spice to the comedy such as the shy and quiet Ebina, the so-called rival Sylphynford, and the Hayato-like Kirie. Again, she just looks like a baby, and maybe even has the same IQ as one. 13. Tamako Market We had high schoolers who were as dumb as a baby, we had an otaku who looks like a baby, but now we get－a talking bird! Yes. A talking bird who’s addicted to mochi. One thing for sure that makes Tamako Market have similarities with Gakuen Babysitters is that it is Slice of Life anime through and through. It features the everyday life of Tamako Kitashirakawa, just like in Gakuen Babysitters where the story revolves around the daily life of Ryuuichi inside the daycare. But instead of daycare, we have a market and instead of babies, you have a bird who has a bigger ego than that one guy who just got a raise. Tamako Market also has the wholesomeness and subtle comedy and romance in Gakuen Babysitters. As I’ve said Tamako Market revolves around the life of Tamako and the market where everyone knows everyone. Tamako belongs to a family of mochi bakers. On a fateful day, she finds Dera Mochimazzi, a bird who proclaims that he is royalty from a distant land and is in search of a bride for his nation’s prince. But Dera takes on an unusual addiction to Mochi, becomes overweight, and can no longer return to his homeland. He lives in Tamako’s house and becomes the mascot. There is also a little romance involved as Tamako’s childhood friend Mochizou continues to hide his feelings from her. 12. K-On! What goes well with wholesomeness? Music and a Tea Party! K-On! is another wholesome slice of life anime that is set in a Japanese high school. But instead of daycare or your typical high school student, K-On! features the four (and then five) high school girls that reside within the Light Music Club. The series shows their day-to-day life just like in Gakuen Babysitters but adds a little uniqueness with their songs and performances. It also has comedy, a little bit of drama that can be found in high school, as well as their journey to achieve their dream. The band name is “Afterschool Tea Time”. The band members include The forgetful main character Yui Hirasawa who plays the guitar and is the lead vocalist; The energetic Ritsu Tainaka who plays the drums; The shy Mio Akiyama, the second vocalist, and bassist; The wealthy and naive Tsugumi Kotobuki who plays the keyboard and; a member who will arrive at the later part of the series, Azusa Nakano who also plays the guitar. Together they bring out wholesome laughs and adorable antics that can’t help but make you smile. The series also has several original songs that can make your day flutter with happiness. 11. Nichijou Nichijou is one of the funniest and wackiest slice of life anime you will ever see in your life. Forget about the talking bird, this time we have a talking cat, a principal tries to suplex a deer, a crow is also talking, and there’s even a robot caretaker. What more could you want? Nichijou - My Ordinary Life is literally about the life of the 6 main characters where again one is a robot, one is a talking cat, and also adds a young genius into the mix. Gakuen Babysitters have a more realistic slice of life but Nichijou is like Gakuen Babysitters but drinks coffee 3 times a day. It’s also set in a high school setting just like in Gakuen Babysitters but lacks the emotional drama as it's a full-blown slapstick comedy. Nichijou is the anime series that took all of Gakuen Babysitters' comedy and put them in a high school setting. It’s like a series out of all the imaginations of the babies in the daycare in Gakuen Babysitters. Maybe this is what Usaida is dreaming about. 10. Chibi☆Devi! We finally have babies! Well…devil babies. Chibi☆Devi! is a series that just like Gakuen Babysitters tackles the hardships of taking care of babies but this series just has a “devilish” twist in it. It features the activities that can be found in Gakuen Babysitters such as nap-time and story-time. One thing that sets this apart from Gakuen Babysitters, however, is that the series is geared towards much younger audiences so you won’t find the emotional drama, and the comedy is built for those at a young age. The series is focused on Honoka Sawada who doesn’t believe in devils and such but one day a devil baby named Mao was dropped into her room while she was asleep and is now enlisting the help of Shin Sugisaki to help her in dealing with the unusual circumstances. 9. My Roommate is a Cat From a talking bird to devil babies and back to an ordinary cat. This may seem like a downgrade but keep reading, this series has a lot more in common with Gakuen Babysitters than you thought. It perfectly re-enacts the situation Ryuuichi and Kotarou are in where their parents died in an accident leaving them alone. But in My Roommate is a Cat, the main character is living in solitude until he meets Haru, a grey cat he decided to take care of. He is similar to Ryuuichi because he is put in a situation where he must take care of someone/something other than himself. Although, instead of being like Ryuuichi who is responsible, Subaru can’t even seem to take care of himself. The similarities don’t stop there, after his fateful meeting with Haru, Subaru is now being acquainted with more and more people and is slowly leaving his introverted life. My Roommate is a Cat that builds up an entire story from the “stray gets picked up from the streets” cliche in other anime series and that itself is amazing. It’s heartwarming and also involves funny scenes. Even though Haru has a backstory, the series makes sure that you get to know and fall in love with the characters. 8. Poco’s Udon World Just by looking at the picture you can tell that even in the art style, Poco’s Udon World and Gakuen Babysitters are starting to look alike. But only do they look alike but there are also similarities in their plot and concept. Poco’s Udon World is more intertwined with fantasy while Gakuen Babysitter is telling their story from a more realistic perspective. I mean Poco’s Udon World has a shapeshifting Tanuki. The main characters of the two series also lost both their parents. Poco’s Udon World also has that wholesome tone to it and also talks about the past of the main character, Souta Tawara. There are also similarities in how the supporting characters act and their main characteristics. The storytelling is also similar to Gakuen Babysitter where there is no definitive storyline, the series is just taking us through the daily life of the characters. So, if you’re not into talking birds and cats, maybe you’re more into a shapeshifting Tanuki named Poco. 7. Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge This anime is if you imagined Usaida and Ryuuichi changed attitudes. I guess this is what Usaida’s dreams must be about. Also called Tanaka-kun is Always Listless in English it revolves around the main character Tanaka, who doesn’t want to exert energy, and his dependable friend Oota (blonde Usaida) as they encounter extraordinary events while living their high school lives. It’s a slice-of-life comedy anime that focuses on the dream of the main character to live a peaceful and quiet life. It also has a pretty unique art style. The similarities it has with Gakuen Babysitters lie in the basic concept of Tanaka’s daily life. While being the opposite of the responsible Ryuuichi, both series focus on the daily life of the characters and the unusual situations that happen in them. Its style of comedy is also similar to Gakuen Babysitters as well as its list of characters. 6. Sweetness & Lightning We finally reached it! If you’re the one who just scrolled all the way here to find an anime that involves taking care of a real baby, you’ve done it! The anime focuses on the life of Kouhei Inuzaka who is taking care of his daughter Tsumugi after his wife passed away. Because of his busy life and his inability to cook, he usually feeds both of them food from the convenience store. He takes up an offer from his student Kotori, and he and Tsumugi eat and cook together with Kotori. In terms of similarity with Gakuen Babysitters, first off, they both stick to the realistic manner of portraying the slice of life genre. He is also in the same situation as Ryuuichi but this time he’s the father. There is also a hint of drama involved especially in the characters' current situation. It’s a wholesome anime that involves cooking, family, and emotions. In a sense, it's more realistic than Gakuen Babysitters especially in how it deals with the character’s feelings. 5. How to Keep a Mummy Look at that mummy! Who in this world would not think that that’s not cute? And there’s more where that came from. How to Keep a Mummy essentially replaced the babies in Gakuen Babysitters with unique cute pets. The story is all about a high school student named Sora Kashiwagi who receives bizarre gifts from his father who travels the world. When he receives a present that came from Egypt he’s shocked to find a little mummy named Mii-kun. As they go along with their lives they start to meet other people with extraordinary pets. This is essentially Gakuen Babysitters if it were set in Night at the Museum. Both series are cute and wholesome. You can’t help but smile at their antics and their amusing everyday lives. Who wouldn’t enjoy that heartwarming tea-cup size cuteness overload? 4. Bunny Drop Bunny Drop is similar to Sweetness & Lightning but instead of the main character being a single father he is now a 30-year old bachelor who just goes with the flow. The story begins when Daikichi Kawachi was paying his respects to his grandfather. He meets a shy girl named Rin Kaga who is being rejected by Daickihi’s grandfather’s relatives after his death as they think she is a shame to the family as she was shockingly his Daikichi’s grandfather’s illegitimate daughter. Furious, Daikichi decides to take Rin as his own and so his journey to fatherhood starts. Bunny Drop has close ties with Gakuen Babysitters especially in how the series’ main characters try to discover and rediscover the warmth and kindness of a close-knit family. Bunny Drop includes wholesome scenes. The series is rare in the anime world because it deals with a subject that is often taken seriously. This slice of life anime will surely make you smile and maybe make you shed a tear or two. 3. Barakamon Barakamon is not about taking care of children but it’s about discovering yourself while being in contact with one. The plot of Barakamon is centered on Seishu Handa who is a narcissistic and talented calligrapher who was exiled to the Goto Islands after losing his cool when his work was called unoriginal. He meets his wacky neighbors who keep barging into his home, one of which is Naru Kotoishi, a very annoying child. While in exile and always being kept busy by his neighbors, he starts to learn new things that began to change his view on so many things in life. Gakuen Babysitters primarily focuses on antics as well as having subtle emotional scenes such as the case with Barakamon. But Barakamon tends to focus on one of Seishu’s views on life instead of his situation. It has similarities with the comedic scenes in Gakuen Babysitters as well as the way it portrays a slice of life. Maybe by watching this anime, you can learn something that will change your perspective about the world. 2. Baby and Me You may be thinking, what’s an anime that premiered in 1996 doing here? Well, because it is one of the most similar anime to Gakuen Babysitters of course! Maybe even its grandfather or something. Such as I said it's similar to Gakuen Babysitters because the mother of the main character, Takuya Enoki’s mother passed away and now he must sacrifice his childhood, even as a 5th grader to take care of his little brother as his father is busy working as your typical Japanese salaryman. Takuya’s situation is almost the same as Ryuuichi as they both try their best to find the true meaning of family. Baby and Me is essentially a drama-comedy anime. It portrays a situation that happens in real life and the story is beautiful on its own. It may be old but it sure is worth watching. 1. Hanamaru Youchien Hanamaru Youchien or Hanamaru Kindergarten is the closest anime just like Gakuen Babysitters. The main character might not have the same family situation just like Ryuuichi but the scenarios, comedy, and slice of life elements of the two series are like twins. Hanamaru Youchien also has that subtle romance where the main character, Naozumi Tsuchida is in love with Nanako Yamamoto who supervises the class next door. Its structure of events is also similar to Gakuen Babysitters. The show is as wholesome as it gets pretty funny because it’s one of the few anime where a big part of the story is where Anzu, a kindergartener fell in love with Naozumi. The series is relaxing, fun, and just all-around laid-back. It’s a must-watch if you liked Gakuen Babysitters. the only animes i could get behind getting compared to redo of healer are berserk (explicit nudity and a very strong revenge theme with violence), and goblin slayer (some nudity and very strong revenge theme with violence.
Erased is similar to Redo of Healer because of the “Time-Traveling” aspect and Mushoku Tensei is similar to it because it has a lot of violence as well as nudity.
Redo of Healer had an interesting idea: a victim of abuse getting revenge through amoral means. Honestly, if handled with maturity, nuance, and skill, this could have been an engaging, challenging, and complex story that would have taken the term, “antihero” to its utmost extreme. Book 2 of Dota 2 Anime is also like redo of healer with some amazing story.
