Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’s First Poster Is Pretty Metal
We’re basically the Doof Warrior right now.
Witness her, literally. Following last week's trailer debut, The first poster for George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road spin-off film Furiosa, starring Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role, has arrived — and you can bet it’s as badass as she is.
Playing the younger version of the role Charlize Theron made famous in the 2015 Best Picture Oscar nominee, Taylor-Joy stands center of the one-sheet. There’s actually two of her: one showing Furiosa as we know her best, with her buzzed head and mechanical arm on display. Above that version of Furiosa, we see her with longer hair, presumably an even younger version of the character.
Chris Hemsworth’s Dementus, a new character we’ve not yet met, stands on the bottom left of the image on one side of Furiosa, with Joe Burke’s Immortan Joe, the tyrannical dictator we know from Fury Road, on the other. Immortan Joe is, naturally, younger than when we met him in the Tom Hardy-led film, but looking “immortan” as ever, he’s got nearly the same look as the last time we saw him.
The film’s official synopsis gives a little more insight on how he’ll function in Furiosa’s story:
“As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by the Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
Mad Max: Fury Road grossed over $400 million globally and became a worldwide phenomenon that ushered in a new era for Miller’s long beloved franchise that began in 1979. It garnered a whopped six Oscar wins out of ten nominations. Miller directed that film from a script he penned alongside Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris. This time, Miller teamed solely with Lathouris on the script, but returned to direct solo once again.
Furiosa has yet to be given a firm release date, but is set to arrive sometime next year.
