Pinus thunbergiana
'Angelica's Thunderhead'
'Angelica's Thunderhead' in early years gives one a cascading mass of rich green clouds. This is a fantasy pine, rich, flexible, luxuriant, and pliable. It can be trained, pruned, and molded in so many fine ways. In youth it trails and forms an irregular, spreading shrub with as much or little discipline as your garden demands or allows. It fills loose, low spaces very well as seen here. Big white candles reveal the apex of the replete needled and jade heads. Later it proves denser, taller, tree-formed, and more globose that the already wonderful species. It is just as artistic and as most books say "picturesque" - only smaller, lower, and thicker. Some plants have it in the genes to be beautiful no matter what. Click on this image for a larger version. LCH |
