In my previous writings, I’ve consistently endeavored to highlight the profound heritage of ancient Hindu ingenuity. Now, in this series, I aim to articulate my reflections on the Saubha Vimana, an incredibly advanced aircraft meticulously detailed in our sacred scriptures, including the Vedas, Puranas, and the Mahabharata.

I’ve consistently held a deep fascination for the ancient Hindu legacy of knowledge and science, and I take great pride in the richness of Hindu culture. Our scriptures, civilization, innovations, rituals, and technologies have not only stood the test of time but also been validated as profoundly scientific in contemporary research. This enduring wisdom continues to serve as an eternal source of inspiration for me, nurturing my creativity, fostering perpetual learning, and driving me towards personal growth and self-improvement.

The ancient Hindu concept of Vimanas offers a captivating glimpse into the realm of high-tech science and advanced technology as envisioned in Hindu facto-logy and ancient texts. They embody a unique fusion of scientific innovation and mysticism, leaving a lasting cultural legacy that continues to intrigue and inspire curiosity about the depths of ancient Indian knowledge, inventions and imagination.

The most complex and powerful, Pushpak Vimana of Kuber (Originally created by Vishwakarma for lord Brahma who gifted to Kuber), forcefully grabbed by his step brother the king Ravan, mentioned in epic Ramayan, is very popular and known by almost everyone.

There is dedicated book called Vrahad Vimana Shastra (In Hindi) by Swami Bramha Muni Parivrajak and another book Vaimaanika Shastra by Subbaraya Shastrion, are available on this subject, and these were extracted from the epic Yantra Sarvasva innovated and written by Sage Mahrishi Bhardwaj around 1500 BCE. These books unfolds the unimaginable details of aircraft construction, working of engines, gyroscopic systems which were developed much later in aviation technology. NASA also experimented the idea on the construction of mercury vortex engines, and trying to built the aircraft based on same theroy which are very similar to what was written in these books.

Here I am focuing on the another one of the most powerful, extra ordinery and unique aircrafts which are described and defined in the period of Mahabhrata and mentioned in the Bhagwat Purana. This aircraft is invented beyond anyone’s imaginations.

The Saubha Vimana

The story of King Shalva (Salwa) and his Saubha Vimana, along with the battle involving Lord Krishna, can be found in the Bhagavata Purana, one of the major Hindu scriptures that narrates various tales and teachings related to Lord Krishna and other divine beings. Here’s an overview of the story:

King Shalva was a powerful and ambitious king who possessed a formidable flying machine called the Saubha Vimana. He worshipped lord Shiva for 150 years to get Saubha Vimana as a boon. This aircraft was described as a highly advanced and mystical vehicle that could travel in the sky, water and on land and was equipped with various weapons.

Lord Shiva asked Mayasur Danav to design an exceptional Vimana hence it was crafted by the demon architect Maya Danava with his excellency, His expertise in creating magnificent structures for gods and demons is well-documented., This is a fascinating and intricate flying chariot mentioned in Hindu scriptures, specifically in texts like the Mahabharata and the Puranas. While the descriptions may vary slightly across different sources, here are some of the detailed features and powers associated with the Saubha Vimana:

The Saubha Vimana is often depicted as an incredibly advanced piece of technology, far ahead of its time. It is described as a flying vehicle that could travel in the sky and through the heavens.

Referring some verses from Mahabharata that states the mind blowing qualities of king Shalva’s flying machines.

"It resembled like a colossal apparatus, akin to a sprawling metropolis in scale, soaring to such staggering altitudes and speeds that attempting to focus on it proved a futile endeavor. Attacking this combat was out of the question. It seemed to be cloaked in perpetual obscurity, yet its pilot could navigate it with absolute precision, traversing all realms effortlessly. It appeared to be almost covered in darkness, yet the pilot could fly it anywhere and everywhere.”

In another verse,

“The aircraft under King Salva’s command possessed an enigmatic quality. At times, numerous aircraft would materialize in the firmament, and then, in an instant, none would be in sight. They exhibited an uncanny ability to appear and disappear, confounding the warriors of the Yadu dynasty. Occasionally, these craft could be spotted on the earth’s surface (Land), at other times soaring through the heavens (Sky), resting atop mountain peaks, or skimming over water bodies (water). This extraordinary aircraft moved through the sky akin to a spinning firebrand, never maintaining a constant position.”

Now Imagine the architecture, design, cockpit, entire navigation interface and user experince of this aircraft, its unbelievable, the most complex and above anyone’s thought. I tried to visualise it through my imagination.

Some of the key features of the Saubha Vimana are as follows:

1. Self-Propulsion (Autonomous):

The Vimana had the capability to move on its own without the need for external propulsion, such as engines or motors. It was said to be self-propelled, which added to its mystique. This autonomous capability made it a highly efficient flying machine. We can relate it to the auto-pilot and autonoumous vehicle and aircraft with the help of artificial intelligence in present time.

2. Camouflage and Invisibility:

The Vimana was said to have the ability to change its appearance, rendering it invisible in rapid mode and extermly difficult to detect by those on the ground. This feature allowed it to approach targets stealthily. It was also a undetachable.

4. Special Night Navigation System:

It appeared to be almost covered in darkness, yet the auto pilot could fly it anywhere and everywhere. It is almost like a night vision system of cars and aircrafts. This vimana was able to navigate with clear vision in all kind of dangerous weather condition in dark, blurry, muddy, fire, water conditions.

4. Huge Structure with Multi-Stories:

Some descriptions mention that the Saubha Vimana had multiple levels or stories within it. These levels were equipped with various chambers, controls, and instruments. It was called as self propelled giant flying city in the form of multi-story building fully equipped with all luxuries, special powers as well as loaded with eternal fighting ammunition. Each level was having their own cockpit and controls to operate and flexible to take different shape.

5. Rocket & Nuclear Weapon Systems:

The Vimana was armed with an array of powerful weapons, including missiles, bows, and other projectile weapons. It could unleash devastating firepower in battles like a attack of nuclear weapon. Sharing below text explanation from Mahabharata.

Gurkha, flying a swift and powerful vimana (fast aircraft) hurled a single projectile (rocket) charged with the power of the Universe (nuclear device). An incandescent column of smoke and flame, as bright as ten thousand suns, rose with all its splendor. It was an unknown weapon, an iron thunderbolt, a gigantic
messenger of death, which reduced to ashes the entire race of the Vrishnis and the Andhakas. The corpses were so burned as to be unrecognizable. Hair and nails fell out; Pottery broke without apparent cause, and the birds turned white….After a few hours all foodstuffs were infected……to escape from this fire the soldiers threw themselves in streams to wash themselves and their equipment.” — The Mahabharata

6. Defensive Capabilities:

In addition to offensive weaponry, the Saubha Vimana was equipped with defensive mechanisms to protect itself from attacks. It was like anti-balletic missiles which stops the attack of opponents missiles and protect the vimana covering with bomb resistent shileds.

7. High-Speed Travel:

It had the capability to travel at extremely high speeds, allowing it to cover vast distances in a short amount of time. It was said that vimanas use to travel from one planet (lok) to another planet (lok) very frequently in rapid mode.

8. Mystical Energy Source:

Generally these vimanas are flown by mercury fuel vortex engine as mentioned in the scriptures, the precise power source of the Saubha Vimana is not always specified, but it is often associated with mystical or divine energy, suggesting that it didn’t rely on only conventional fuel sources.

9. Anti Collision System:

It had the power feature of object detection to avoid Collison when traveling at high speed. It was like high sensor anti collision device which warns and stops vehcile-train-aircraft before its collision.

10. Multi-Purpose & Versatile Use:

While it was primarily designed for warfare, the Saubha Vimana could be used for transportation, reconnaissance, and other purposes. It was able to form the different shapes. It could split up the airplane into multiple fighter airplanes jets to attack and fight the enemy.

11. Parachute Landing:

Vimana was equipped with safety and landing devices to safely land from air. It was mentioned that when Shalva’s vimana was destroyed in the air by lord krishna, he took a parachute landing to be escaped.

12. Aesthetic Design:

The Vimana was often described as being beautifully designed, with intricate and aesthetic features that showcased Maya Danava’s craftsmanship.

Saubha Vimana is compared with today’s highly advanced fighter planes B-2 SPIRIT STEALTH BOMBER and UFO, as it flew with unmatched speed and was at different places within few seconds and loaded with heavy ammunition to destroy target in minutes.

It’s important to note that these descriptions are based on ancient Hindu texts and scriptures defined in Shrimad Bhagwat Puran, The Vimana’s advanced technology and capabilities serve as a testament to the imaginative narratives found in Hindu scriptures and the blending of science and mysticism in ancient storytelling.

Shalv Conflict with Lord Krishna: End of Saubha Vimana

King Shalva (Salwa, Salva)) harbored animosity towards Lord Krishna, who was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and he sought revenge for a previous confrontation. In one version of the story, Shalva had been humiliated by Krishna in a previous battle, and this fueled his desire for vengeance.

King Shalva (Salwa, Salva) used his Saubha Vimana to attack the city of Dwaraka, where Lord Krishna resided. He launched a fierce assault on the city from the sky, causing widespread destruction and panic among the residents.

Despite the formidable nature of the Saubha Vimana, Lord Krishna ultimately emerged victorious. He used his divine prowess to outmaneuver King Shalva and disable the Saubha Vimana. In some versions of the story, Lord Krishna’s astras like anti ballestic missiles and supreme astra Sudarshana Chakra (a discus-like weapon) plays a crucial role in destroying the flying machine.

Indian Vimana Science Validation

An aerospace engineer at UC-Irvine tests an aircraft model that was built using measurements from ancient Hindu texts. Ancient astronaut theorists suggest the texts also contain information on how to build advanced spacecrafts in this clip from Season 12, Episode 11, “Voices of the Gods”

Ancinet Indian technology and highly advanced civilization vanished after the destruction of this world through nuclear war of Mahabharata where millions of valiant warriors from all around the world succumbed to death under the attack of powerful nuclear weapons. People from that era experinced the supersonic fighter jets-planes, submarines and missiles but could not retain the cutting edge technology and knowledge to re-invent them and as a result, formula and methods of all the advanced technologies of that era could not be sustained and ascended to this era due to continuous attacks of invaders in India to demolish the culture, knowledge and civilisation. Attack and destruction on Nalanda Mahavihara (Nalanda University) by invaders, is one of the the great examples of this case, where we lost everything. Needless to mention that Nalanda was regarded as the world’s premier learning and research centre established in 5th century in India.

Earlier we had seen that these narration and facts were mocked, fabricated and denied by some foreign scientists and technologists even some Indian scientists as well, but Indian history is very authentic and reflects the highly advanced lost civilisation of ancient hindu science which is still inspiring the entire world. These ancient innovations make us think of the technological advancements during that era. In modern times, discussions about Vimanas often touch on the blurred line between science fiction and ancient texts, making it a subject of interest for scholars, enthusiasts, and those intrigued by the mysteries of the past. Ultimately, the concept of Vimanas in ancient Hindu science and is a testament to the enduring allure of ancient mysteries and the timeless quest for knowledge and understanding.
