Trees & Shrubs

What are Trees & Shrubs?

A tree usually has one stem, which at some height has branches. A shrub can have multiple stems from the bottom up. Usually, bushes do not grow as tall as trees, very often they are less than 1–2 m tall. Very many plants can be either shrubs or trees, depending on the growing conditions.

A shrub or bush is a small- to medium-sized perennial woody plant. Some shrubs are deciduous and others evergreen. They are distinguished from trees by their multiple stems and shorter height, less than 6 meters (20 feet)  tall.

Get To Know Trees & Shrubs

Trees are the longest living organisms on Earth, and never die of old age.

California holds the record for the oldest living trees. Some of the state’s bristlecone pines and giant sequoias are 4,000-5,000 years old. Methuselah, an estimated 4,852-year-old ancient Bristlecone Pine, is one of the oldest living trees in the world.

Planting trees can help reduce your energy costs

Strategically planting trees and shrubs can save you up to 25 percent on your energy bills. A shade tree can help cool your home by as much as 20 degrees in the summertime. Not only do they provide shade in the summer, but serve as a windbreak in the winter, too.

Shrubs

Shrubs are used in landscaping for their aesthetic appeal to human beings, appealing to people’s inner search for beauty through their colors, fragrances, patterns, and so forth.
