Macrobius 1501

Plate 8
Ambrosius Macrobius, Roman, c. 395–436
Untitled map of the world (1483)

Diameter: 4 ⅛ in. (10.5 cm)
Brescia, Italy, 1501

A map of the world, notable for the recognizable delineation of the Northern Hemisphere and the placement of Jerusalem in its approximately correct geographical location. The Earth is still, however, shown to be entirely surrounded by water, a notion originally presented by Homer.
