hill's choice to focus the first film on the character drama and internal prison politics of the dirty spectacle at the heart of these movies i think was the right one (a choice helped by the fact that he was working with actors like wesley snipes, ving rhames and peter falk), but isaac florentine turning this into a michael jai white and scott adkins vehicle gives this a whole different energy and athleticism that's just a blast to watch. a lot sillier and more extreme in terms of the writing but ultimately a huge improvement on impact of the hits and clean coverage & camera moves during the fights while also not sacrificing any of the underground texture/brutality. also the knockoff eminem all over the soundtrack is hilarious.
B-movie bliss. As Sarris said of Ulmer, “That a personal style could emerge form the depths of poverty row is a tribute to a director without alibis.”
Keeping on with the Scott Adkins series of movie watching, we are now heading to the cold prison in Russia where our hero has become a villain and his heroic places has been taken by the good ole Michael Jai White, playing a former big time boxer whose framed for a crime he didn’t commit so a big time criminal may get some cash inside the underground jail fighting circuit.
Adkins has always been ripped, but here he’s all muscle and he goes back to his look at Avengement where he becomes this brutal fighter that takes no hostages, as to expected his moves are incredible and so does the fighting stunts. Michael plays on his charm and build this…

Society of spectacle on poverty row. Meaner and seedier, getting plenty of mileage out of the Russian setting. Hill’s original had the advantage of a more balanced fight, but Florentine direction is focused and on point. Michael Jai White never get a vehicle this efficient and he makes the best of it and Adkins is great in the fight scenes.

His forward-facing style is in perfect balance, it's led by two great performances (Michael Jai White and a star-making turn from Scott Adkins), and there's even a little bit of overwrought emotion in the film's final few minutes. Dir Ereignisse aus Teil 1 scheinen ihn so mitgenommen zu haben, dass er äußerlich zu einem gämzlich anderen Mensch wurde. Ich habe dem zweiten Undisputed damals von vornherein keine Chance gegeben. Es gibt immer diese berühmt berüchtigten Videotheken Fortsetzungen, in denen die komplette Darstellerriege ausgetauscht wird. Und im Großteil der Fälle sind die meist nicht zu gebrauchen. In a way he's like the energizer bunny.. hehe
The fight sequences are phenomenal.
Even more so when he and Michael Jai White "George Chambers" are in the ring. The fighting choreography is stunning.

the major revelation in this isn't Florentine, it's Adkins. Michael Jai White is a fine screen martial artist but he looks downright stilted next to Adkins' speed (his goofy ouch faces don't help), and the fights, while cleanly covered and plentiful, are a little sluggish, lacking the pace and fluidity Florentine displays in earlier stuff like US SEALS 2.
