Birds of the Bible  – Buzzard

But these you shall not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard, (Deuteronomy 14:12 NKJV)

CLASS – AVES, Order – ACCIPITRIFORMES, Family – Accipitridae – Kites, Hawks & Eagles

The Buzzard is mentioned in at least two verses in the Bible. Deuteronomy 14:12 (above) and:

‘And these you shall regard as an abomination among the birds; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard, (Leviticus 11:13 NKJV)

They are members of the Accipitride family, which are known as “Birds of Prey”  or “raptors” by many. There are 28 species in this family with “Buzzard” in their name.
