  • Conifer, evergreen tree, dwarf, compact and slow growing, upright branches, 4 ft high and 2 ft wide (1.2 × 0.6 m) in ten years; the plant shown here is about 25 years old (note from Larry Stanley, 7/11/06).  Leaves (needles) long and stiff, dark green.

  • Hardy to USDA Zone 6   This selection was introduced by Hillier (England) in 1964 under the name Pinus leucodermis 'Compacta' and 'Dwarf Form' (Krüssmann, 1985).  However, the accepted name of the species is Pinus heldreichii, hence Pinus heldreichii 'Compacta'.
