  • Conifer, evergreen tree, weeping form, branches very pendulous, densely branched, blue-green needles. If staked it can grow into a narrow, pyramidal shape with an upright central leader and secondary branches that sweep downward giving a layered appearance.  Depending on the strength or training of the central leader it can grow to a height of 12 to 40 ft (3.6 to12 m).
  • Discovered by A. Carriére in Trianon Park, Versailles, France before1867 (Krüssman, 1985).  According to Iseli Nursery, Boring, Oregon, it was “rediscovered” by Jean Iseli at the Morton Arboretum in 1982, it gained some popularity in North America when the Nursery began promoting this cultivar (Jacobson, 1996).
  • Some caution that this tree will require regular care and upkeep. When pruning, other than removing dead branches, it is  recommended to only trim back the new growth of the current season to maintain the layered appearance.
