Miley Cyrus – 2010 Grammys

Miley Cyrus – 2010 Grammys.

1. To get Miley Cyrus’s Grammys hairstyle, you need to first wash and dry your hair. Use a volumising shampoo and conditioner – sparingly – on the ends.

2. Dry your hair with a blow dryer and big round brush, adding volume at the roots by pulling the hair up at a right angle from the scalp. Alternatively – if you’re pressed for time – tip your head upside down and blast the hair in every direction, concentrating on the roots. You may like to use a volumising or curl emphasizing product to dry your hair, like a mousse or root lift spray.

3. After your hair is completely dry, you need to section the hair. Section the front half and clip it up out of the way. Section the back half into two, straight down the middle, and take a small section at the nape – bottom – about 1.5cm. Clip the rest away.

4. For the next stage you will need either a big barrelled curling iron, or a straightener.

5. Using the curling iron, take 2.5cm sections – larger than smaller barrelled curling technique. Spray each section with a heat protective curling spray. Clip the ends of the hair into the curling iron and twist up.

6. Hold the hair in the curling iron for a few seconds, then release. You should not need to redo the section; if you do, try holding the hair in the curler for a little longer.

7. After you have completed the 2.5cm section, immediately run your fingers through to loosen the curls.

8. Spray each section with light hairspray.

9. Continue until the whole back section is done.

10.  When you do the front, make sure that you part the hair where you want it to fall in the end. Miley’s looks nice slightly off centre.

11.  Alternatively, if you do not have a large barrelled curling iron, you can use your straightener to achieve the same look. The straightener is actually more flexible when it comes to curls, and you can experiment with how tight or loose you want your hair to be curled.

12.  The technique used to curl hair with a straightener takes a little practice. Place a small section of hair into the iron, and before pulling it down the hair, rotate it. A half turn should be enough for this look. Then, without changing the rotation of the straightener, pull down as if you were straightening the section. You do not need to keep turning the iron; hold it in the same position all the way down.

13.  Continue with process explained above until complete.

14.  Spray with hairspray and an anti-humidifier if your hair is prone to frizz.

Tips:

  • For a more natural look, alternate the direction of the curling iron for each small section/curl of the hair.
  • When curling the hair, you want to aim for a slightly tighter curl than you desire for the finished product. Hair tends to drop, or ‘un-curl’, especially if the hair is naturally fine or straight.
