Buttes-Chaumont Park: one of the largest in Paris

At the site of the park, there was once a quarry. During the reign of Napoleon III, its territory was annexed to the city and improved. Subsequently, Baron Haussmann and engineer Jean-Charles Alphand spent four years developing and bringing order to the area. The opening of the new public park took place in 1867, coinciding with the day of the opening of the World's Fair. By then, the Buttes-Chaumont had become one of the largest public parks in Paris. Today, it features numerous cliffs and bridges, a grotto with a waterfall and lake, as well as several Chinese and English gardens.
