Underpart of male is dark olive green. Face and throat are blackish and has prominent white eyebrow and forehead. They have small rufous patch in centre of grey breast and large white patches at sides of tail. Females are almost like males with duller and less distinct rufous gorget. Face and throats are paler grey. Tail pattern of juvenile is same as adult. Upperrparts of juvenile is dark brown with orange buff. They have orange buff throat and breast. Belly and flanks are whiter and all scaled with dark brown.
