Description
The adult has uniform grey underparts from Long-tailed Shrike, and undertail coverts with rufous. Also forehead band is lacking or very narrow, and also white patch on base of primaries is lacking. In juveniles, ear-coverts is brown , upperparts are cold grey, with feathers having indistinct black subterminal crescents and buff fringes; coverts and tertials with rufous fringes and indistinct black subterminal borders, breast and flanks with dark scaling. To the upperparts is a uniform cold grey base coloration and is the best distinction from juvenile Long-tailed Shrike.

          Lanius tephronotus is native to Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam. Although present in Pakistan, its origin is uncertain.
