A medium sized cormorant with bronze brown or glossy wings and slender log beak with hooked tip. Rest of the body co lour is black. Eyes are bluish. In breeding time tuft of white feathers behind the eyes and white filo-plumes on neck. Non breeding birds has white throat and lack of white tuft. Immature have whitish under parts with yellowish beak.
Slender long beak with curved tip and oval shaped head, larger than Phalacrocorax niger.
Mainly breeding in monsoon season in heronries along with other water birds and cormorants. Usually 3-4 chicks in each nests.
