Hypospadias for parents
Provides information about hypospadias, a congenital condition in males that affects the position of the urethral meatus on the penis.
This video presents an interview with Dr. Luis Braga about hypospadias, a congenital condition in males that affects the position of the urethral meatus on the penis. A majority of hypospadias cases involve a structural defect without affecting the other parts of the urinary system or other organs of the body. The most common form of treatment for this diagnosis is surgery, and research at McMaster Children’s Hospital’s Urology Clinic looks at the long-term outcomes of children who undergo surgery for hypospadias repair. The qualitative component further seeks to understand parents’ experiences of hypospadias. Based on the opinions shared by parents on pediatric hypospadias blogs and in the qualitative study, parents have demonstrated a need for better understanding of this diagnosis, including treatments, follow-up and educational resources.
