Adelaide-based Prohibition Liquor Co. has added to its range of award-winning gins, with the release of Juniperus Prohibition Gin.

The latest offering from the small-batch distiller is its most classical gin yet, and captures the unique flavours provided by the humble ‘Juniperus Communis’ berry.

The berry is distilled whole, crushed, macerated and then vapour and pot distilled to attain a level of complexity and depth that ensures Juniperus will become a favourite with gin lovers.

Prohibition co-owner Adam Carpenter says the Prohibition team is united by its passion to produce craft spirits of the highest quality, using only the finest botanicals.

“It was really only a matter of time before we created a Juniper-forward ‘London Dry’ style gin,” Adam says.

“Our head distiller, Hugh Lumsden, worked tirelessly on the recipe, which is a modern take on an old classic.

“We are excited and proud to finally be able to share Juniperus with our ginsational supporters.”

To complete Juniperus, grains of paradise and cassia bark are added to the Juniperus Communis berry – commonly known as juniper – to infuse warmth and structure.

Riverland citrus helps to lift the spirit, and vanilla and macadamia integrate the palate and provide softness to the gin, which has a 47 per cent alcohol content.

“This juniper-driven gin has been crafted to elevate your classic cocktails,” Adam says.

“The Prohibition team has been using Juniperus to lift its London Calling and Martini cocktails, or to create a sophisticated gin and tonic, garnished with grapefruit and thyme.”

Juniperus comes in one of Prohibition’s signature glass French bottles, with a delicate sketch of a juniper branch on the inside of the bottle that appears to be floating.

Prohibition Liquor Co. was founded in late 2015 by Adam Carpenter and Wes Heddles, a couple of Adelaide mates with a shared passion for making gin.

The pair spent the first two years running Prohibition from Adam’s suburban garage, refining and producing Prohibition’s first neat-drinking gin.

In 2017, the Prohibition tasting room was opened at 22 Gilbert St, Adelaide, and the following year a copper pot still, affectionately named Mary after Wes’s step mum who passed away from a rare form of cancer, was added to the site.

The company has since gone on to add eight craft gins to its core range, including Navy Strength, Shiraz Barrel Aged and its ever popular limited-release Christmas Gin.

It has also collected more than 100 national and international awards, including double gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and best in class at the World Drink Awards.

To celebrate the new release, Prohibition is holding a cocktail-making class with the team from Next Door Cocktail Bar. Be guided through the process of making two signature Prohibition Juniperus gin cocktails.

Taking place this Thursday August 11th, Each class includes two cocktails and an antipasto platter plus take-home cocktail recipe cards to recreate in your own home and impress your friends! Book your place here.

The Prohibition distillery and tasting room is co-located with Bootleg Coffee Co. and Next Door bar at 22 Gilbert St, Adelaide.

Juniperus retails for $94 and is available from most bottle shops, direct through the Prohibition Distillery or it can be ordered online at prohibitionliquor.co/store
