I've only seen one specimen of this species of the temperate Himalayan Region and that was in the Pine Collection on the east side of Morton Arboretum in northeast Illinois. It looks like an Eastern White Pine with longer needles, slightly larger cones, and a wider habit. Its soft needles are about 5 to 8 inches long in bundles of 5. Its cylindrical cones are about 6 to 10 inches long by 2 inches wide and are very resinous. In landscapes it needs a good quality, moist, well-drained soil that is at least a little bit acid, below pH 7.0, and it is best to locate out of strong winds. It is a very beautiful, graceful conifer.
