Silver-beaked Tanager (Ramphocelus carbo carbo) 14 June 2019. Rio Marañon--Iquitos Creek, Nauta, Loreto, Peru

These tanagers were fairly common along the rivers. Overall color varies with subspecies. This is the dark nominate race, males of which often look all black from a distance. Male plumage is deep red velvet, decidedly darker than the female. The striking enlarged silver-colored mandible gives this species its name. Canon PowerShot SX60 HS.
