Black-fronted Nunbird (Monasa nigrifrons nigrifrons)
Nunbirds are graceful members of the Puffbird family (Bucconidae) formerly included with woodpeckers in the Piciformes but currently classified with the Jacamars in the Galbuliformes. As seen here, they sit more upright than other puffbirds. The Black-fronted Nunbird is endemic to the Amazonian region ranging into the northern Pantanal, but it is absent further south. Two subspecies are recognized. This is the widespread nominate race. Another slightly paler race M. n. canescens is confined to Eastern Bolivia. Canon PowerShot SX60 HS.
