Eleutherodactylus planirostris, 28 February 2015

Eleutherodactylus planirostris, the Greenhouse frog;
Lake county, Florida (28 Februaray 2015).

The diminutive Greenhouse frog is a tiny delight of an amphibian species. Though non-native to Florida, this species is now well-established throughout much of the peninsula and isn’t really considered a problematic species (unlike Cane toads and Cuban treefrogs). They tend to come out at night, often hiding under surface debris, and stick fairly close to ground level (though they can and will climb from time to time).
