FOX SERIES PREMIERE: Almost Family’s Megalyn Echikunwoke Has Her Own Family Secret!

Fox premieres its new series Almost Family tonight. The show centers the crime of Dr. Leon Bechley, a fertility doctor who used his own sperm for reproductive purposes. It’s much to the surprise of his “only” daughter Julia who learns she has potentially thousands of siblings. That includes her childhood frenemy Edie Palmer, played by Megalyn Echikunwoke.
“I’m really excited. I think this show is going there,” Megalyn shared with the DivaGals at a VIP screening of the series this past summer. “There is a mass array of possibilities where the storylines could go. All you know now is that they are sisters and there could be more siblings out there.”
But it turns out Edie has a little family secret of her own; she’s dealing with her feelings for another woman. “I love that Edie’s story is complicated and messy. She’s married, but she’s just discovering her sexuality late in life. For an actor, that’s a big deal to play.”
While we’ll have to wait and see how that storyline plays out, one thing Megalyn does share is that Edie and her newfound sister Julia (Brittany Snow), have been rivals for a long time.
“My character likes to win,” Megalyn declared. “She does win.”
Looks like this sister rivalry is on! Catch the series premiere of Almost Family on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. on FOX.
