It's only during ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' that Ron shows romantic interest in her after feeling upset at Draco Malfoy's insult towards her.
During this, Malfoy joked about a mud blood dying—pertaining to Hermione. Ron bit back with “I'm going to kill him with my bare hands!”

Ron and Hermione falling in love is kinda like when opposites attract. They're different in many ways. Hermione is a “Muggle-born” wizard, while Ron is from a wizarding family. Hermione is really good at books, and Ron, well, not so much. But, they liked each other right from the start when they met on the Hogwarts Express.
