This 1988 Mazda 323 GTX Turbo is one of approximately 1,243 examples produced for the US market from 1988-1989 and was acquired new by the seller from Z&W Mazda of Princeton, New Jersey, in April 1988. The car is finished in Sparkle Black over black and gray cloth upholstery and is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transmission, a locking center differential, and a four-wheel-drive system. Equipment includes a sunroof, 14″ alloy wheels, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, air conditioning, dual rear spoilers, and Recaro front seats. This 323 GTX Turbo shows 138k miles and is offered at no reserve with a window sticker, manufacturer’s literature, service records, historical documents, a clean Carfax report, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Sparkle Black and features body-color lower side moldings and dual rear spoilers affixed to the trunk hatch. Additional exterior details include a sunroof, black-finished trim, and mud flaps. Blemishes and corrosion in the paint and trim can be seen in the gallery below.
Seven-spoke 14″ alloy wheels are mounted with 185/60 Falken Ziex tires. Stopping power is provided by discs at all four corners, and the car is equipped with power-assisted steering. Corrosion is visible on the wheels, and the seller states the front struts and sway bar bushings were replaced in December 2020.
The cabin features Recaro front seats and a 50/50 split rear seat trimmed in black and gray cloth with a contrasting gray dashboard, center console, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes an AM/FM/cassette stereo, a rear window defogger, air conditioning, front-seat lumbar support, and power accessories. The driver door key slot is jammed, and wear and stains on the interior surfaces and seats can be viewed in the gallery.
A two-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column and frames digital instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplementary readouts. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 138k miles, all of which were added during current ownership. The seller reports the fuel gauge is inoperative.
The turbocharged 1.6-liter DOHC inline-four features electronic fuel injection and four valves per cylinder. The seller states the turbocharger was rebuilt and the exhaust manifold was replaced in September 2005, and service in 2020 included machining the cylinder head and replacing the battery. The wastegate is reportedly stuck in the open position.
Power is sent to all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a locking center differential. The clutch master and slave cylinders were replaced in December 2020.
The window sticker lists initial delivery to North Penn Imports of Colmar, Pennsylvania, and a total price of $15,504. Manufacturer’s literature, service records, a repair manual, historical documents, and periodicals are also included in the sale.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in New Jersey since new.
