Miley Cyrus was first portrayed as a pop star in the children’s TV series ‘Hannah Montana’ and ‘Hannah Montana Forever’  from 2006-2011. Following her dad’s (Billy Ray Cyrus) famous traits of being a country singer she does the same in the TV Show on the channel Disney. She was a well-known star for children and a popular role model. Her music video for ‘Party in the USA’ was an innocent act of a young girl having fun in America with her friends and living the dream in 2009, she was a standard pop star. ‘Can’t be Tamed’ was another single that was released after Party in the USA and was more of an aggressive and rebelling song but she still came across as the same old Miley.

Miley Cyrus then went on to release a song that changed her look, appearance and her personality. She released ‘We Can’t Stop’ which shows a load of young adults in a house trashing the place, twerking, having fun but the concept of the video was strange, something not all audiences understood. Miley cut and dyed her hair from long and brunette to short and blonde, everyone was instantly talking about her new look over social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

In June 2012 she got engaged to Liam Hemsworth which ended drastically after Miley’s performance at the VMA’s in 2013 [Link]. She performed her own song ‘We Can’t Stop’ before  she joined Robin Thicke’s set and helped with his song ‘Blurred Lines’, Miley was wearing a rabbit leotard with her short cut hair in two buns on her head. This wasn’t the real Miley, this was her being sculpted into something the media and the industry wanted her to be to cause a social media up rise in things to talk about. She was acting sexual and provocative towards the audience which was seen as highly immature and inappropriate, many celebrities including the Smith family, One Direction and Rihanna all had disgusted and confused looks whilst watching her performance. It made many people feel extremely uncomfortable which gained her many negative and horrible comments about what she has done to herself and how they shouldn’t have allowed that performance.

After her publicity stunt at the VMA’s social media blew up about her performance and her new look, how that she is not the same and she’s changing so people won’t get bored of her. Just after the VMA’s Liam broke up with Miley saying how he was so much happier without her.

She then released ‘Wrecking Ball’ which showed how broken and devastated she was. She was stripped back and shown as vulnerable, something people considered as possibly the real her. She was exposed and she was showing her wounds through the song.

Some of her rebellious side could be about Disney, how she wanted to change her appearance so that people didn’t think of her and instantly think of Disney. She wanted to leave Hannah Montana behind and not be reminded of how she became famous in the first place. She didn’t want to appeal to just little girls anymore she wanted to appeal to teenagers and young adults who like who she has now become.
