Hungarian Crisp Fritters

This is a recipe for making Hungarian Crisp (or Curled) Fritters, or Csöröge Fánk in Hungarian. They are also known as “Angel Wings,” and are a traditional sweet crisp pastry. In Hungary, they are traditional at weddings and other celebrations. More recently, and particularly in the United States, they are popular during Christmas and Easter.

Csöröge Fánk

Ingredients:

  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons of cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons of rum
  • 2 cups of flour
  • Hot grease for frying
  • 1/2 cup of powdered sugar

Directions: Combine the egg yolks, cream, salt, sugar, and rum. Mix into flour and knead until mixture no longer sticks to the board. Let stand for 20 minutes. Then roll out 18 inch thick.
