Bicolored Wren Campylorhynchus griseus
Brazilian name: garrincha-dos-lhanos |
||||
Brazil and Colombia The Bicolored Wren is found from northern Colombia through Venezuela, interior Guyanas and the extreme north of Brazil in Roraima. There is a distribution map at NatureServe. It likes open, scrubby areas and light woodland where they tend to be conspicuous on branches or the ground often with their tail cocked. |
||||
It is distinguished by its large size, its bold, white supercilium and its white underparts contrasting with
dark brown upperparts.
The second and third photos show birds with buffy underparts and supercilium. After a lot of help from some of the experts, it seems that these are immatures although there is a possibility that they are birds that have been dust-bathing. |

Photos 1 to 3 show the nominate sub-species taken in Roraima, Brazil while photos 4 and 5 show the sub-species C. g. albicilius from the foothills of the Santa Marta Mountains, Colombia. This latter sub-species is a deeper rufous with a black crown and mantle.
The song is a series of loud, gurgling notes often sung as a duet.
