Meet the robot that can do your chores
Updated 05 February 2003, 15.06
Wakamaru the robot will be able to help with the housework
If you'd had enough of helping out with the housework then a new robot could be the answer.

Wakamaru, made by Mitsubishi, has been designed to make people's lives easier by doing jobs for them and helping them remember things they have to do.

The bright yellow robot also has cool technology inside that helps it recognise people's faces and voices to help it communicate with its owner.

Mitsubushi think the robot will be ideal for elderly people who need help around the house, and it will also act as a hi-tech burglar alarm.

Fact File
Some things Wakamaru can say
Let me search the Internet
You can catch the train at 25 past
What time will you be back?
Welcome back
You are home late
If it's on its own and the robot hears a loud noise or sees anything unusual it's been programmed to e-mail its owner to let them know there is a problem.

It's so clever that when its batteries run out, normally after about two hours, Wakamaru knows that it needs to recharge itself, so it does!

Mind you, all that doesn't come cheap, so if you've got your eye on one you'll have to have a spare £5,000 to pay for it.
