Redhead
Aythya americana
The Redhead (Aythya americana) is a widespread North American duck which breeds across the northern half of the United States and parts of southern Canada. The species winters across the southern half of the U.S. and into Mexico. In some years large numbers of Redheads winter in south Texas. The first two images shown here were taken in February, 2006, in Aransas Pass, Aransas Co., Texas, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and a 1.4X extender.
The pair of Redheads in this shot was on South Padre Island, Cameron Co., Texas, in December, 2010.
